The Baby's Opera: A Book of Old Rhymes with New Dresses: The Music by the Earliest Masters By Walter Crane - 1877 First Edition London: George Routledge and Sons, Ltd. n.d. [1877]. First edition. Engraved and printed in colours by Edmund Evans. Square octavo, 56 pages. Good: brown cloth spine and decorated brown boards - edges worn and corners rounded & worn to board; covers scuffed. Dark green endpapers split at hinges but not affecting binding, which is well attached, although first signature is a bit pulled. Owner inscrip. on half-title and two lines of math in a child's hand on the back flyleaf. No other marks and no tears, but all pages a bit grubby from generations of childish handling. Traditional nursery rhymes set to music and heavily illustrated by the artist Walter Crane (1845-1915), a member of the English Arts and Crafts movement, and best-known for his beautiful book illustrations. Full color illustrations (including 10 full page) very pretty and charming! Category: Illustration
