A Native American Northeastern Woodlands Indian basket made of ash splint with the curliecue porcupine twist. It measures about 10 inches long and 6 inches wide at the bottom. The height is 4 1/2 inches to the top of the rim, about 8 1/4 inches to the top of the double handles when they are in the fully upright position.
This looks to be a more contemporary basket, since the handles are attached by means of metal brads with little round leather discs. There is some gentle wear to the handles and a spot on one of the porcupine twists, but overall this basket is in good to very good condition, with great curliecue work.
