CROCHET - 35 RARE PATTERNS & INSTRUCTIONS FROM 1870!
Crochet is a process of creating fabric from yarn or thread using a crochet hook.
The word is derived from the Middle French word croc or croche, meaning hook.
Crocheting, similar to knitting, consists of pulling loops of yarn through other loops.
Crochet differs from knitting in that only one loop is active at one time (the sole exception being Tunisian crochet), and that a crochet hook is used instead of knitting needles.
This document contains 35 rare patterns from 1870 for you to work.

KNITTING & CROCHET 50 RARE 1886 PATTERNS & INSTRUCTION
Knitting is a craft by which thread or yarn may be turned into cloth. Similar to crochet, knitting consists of loops called stitches pulled through each other.
Knitting differs from crochet in that multiple stitches are 'active', or in use, at the same time, and crochet uses a single tool, a crochet hook, instead of a minimum of two knitting needles.
The active stitches are held on a needle until another loop can be passed through them with a second needle.
This document contains 50 unique, rare patterns from 1886 for you to work.

THE ART OF CROCHET WITH MANY PATTERNS & INSTRUCTIONS
Crochet work, so called from the hook, French croche or croc, with which it is done, is not only one of the easiest but in comparison with the cost and labour, one of the most effective kinds of fancy-work.
It is also one of the most useful, as it can be applied to the domestic requirements of every-day life, to wearing apparel, house-linen and upholstery; and we are sure that the patterns contained in this chapter, which have in addition to their other merits that of novelty, will meet with a favorable reception.
Hooks, or needles, as they are generally called, made of wood, bone or tortoise-shell are used for all the heavier kinds of crochet work in thick wool or cotton, and steel ones for the finer kinds.
The Tunisian crochet is done with a long straight hook, which is made all in one piece. The points should be well polished inside and not too sharp, the backs slightly curved, and the handles, whether of bone, steel or wood, so light as not to tire the hand.
