HOW TO MAKE WIND VANES WEATHER VANES WITH DIAL PLANS

It is difficult to tell from a distance in which direction the arrow of a wind vane points when the arrow lies obliquely to the spectator, or points directly towards or away from him.

In the case of a vane set up in some position where it will be plainly visible from the house, this difficulty is overcome by making the wind vane operate an arrow moving round a vertical dial set square to the point of observation.

With a few tools, a few materials and a little time, you can build one of the wind/weather vanes in this document. It'll look great atop a garage or other out-building, and it's so useful too... very nice plans, indeed!

Contents Include:

Introduction
The Bevel Gearing
The Dial
A Dial Indoors
An Electrically Operated Dial
The Dial II

BUILD A WORKING TOY WINDMILL - MODEL TOY MAKERS PLANS

There is, perhaps, no toy that allows of the exercise of ingenuity as much as the windmill. We meet with it in various forms in the toy shops, there are many others which it may take until it becomes an absolutely correct model of the well-known machine.

The simplest toy windmill is that consisting of four light arms with coloured paper attached to the ends, and a pin or small nail through the centre, by which these small sails are attached to the end of a light rod, but as to turn freely upon it. Faced to the wind, the rod held in the hand, the small sails spin merrily enough.

With this information, you can build a model working mill type windmill. When equiped as described in this ebook, you will be able to grind sugar or similar substances with this machine. It is intended as an indoor toy, but can also be fitted so that it may be used outside as well.

There is also a click-clack windmill, that's actually a whirligig style weathercock. It can be built and placed atop this windmill as a wind indicator. The construction is very simple, but it will create a very nice machine.

HOW 2 MAKE WIND TOYS PLANS WINDMILLS PINWHEELS & KITES

Harnessing the power of the wind is a dream man has long had. On a small scale, we've figured out how to work with the wind to amuse ourselves and to provide some power to run our machines.

These are all toys in this document, amusing wind-driven mechanical toys that were illustrated and described in the early 1900's.

From the simple tailless kite to a miniature windmill, there is a wind toy in here for just about everyone. They're all easy to understand, illustrated fully and require minimal materials. They were intended for young boys to build themselves.

They'll make for great projects for adults and kids alike!

TUMBLING CLOWN WHIRLIGIG WEATHER VANE RARE 1912 PLANS

In days past, whirligig windmills were commonly seen on the peaks of barn roofs, garages, sheds and homes. This one deserves to be created and seen again!

If you've got some extra time on your hands... some wood and a few tools, you can bring this old time whirligig windmill back into use!

It'll take a little bit of imagination and a working knowledge of woodworking in order to build this. It's a beautiful plan from the early 1900's but they didn't bother to give full dimensions, it's up to the builder to decide.

WEATHER VANES & WINDCOCKS HISTORY OF ENGLANDS WINDVANES

This is a very nice document from the late 1800's about the weather vanes and windcocks then found across the English countryside. The author's extensively illustrated each vane and described it's dimensions. These aren't your run of the mill weather vanes... in fact, one described is a jug capable of holding over 100 gallons of water with a glass capable of holding 8 gallons (it's HUGE and was over a tavern).

This is a super book to add to your digital library. If you enjoy weather vanes or create them, you'll find inspiration and information that's not available anywhere else. We've included a quote below from the original text: "The picturesque quality and almost endless variety of vanes—from the modest arrow to the richly-gilt and imposing heraldic monster—which meet the eye as one wanders through quiet village, busy market town, or sleepy cathedral city, and the traditions which are associated with these distinctly useful, time-honoured, and much consulted adjuncts to church or home, make me hope that the following brief notes and sketches of a few of the many types one sees may not be without interest to my readers."
