Puppetry is an ancient form of performance. Some historians claim that they pre-date actors in theatre. There is evidence that they were used in Egypt as early as 2000 BC when string-operated figures of wood were manipulated to perform the action of kneading bread, and other string controlled objects. Wire controlled, articulated puppets made of clay and ivory have been found in Egyptian tombs. Marionette puppetry was used to display rituals and ceremonies using these string-operated figurines back in ancient times and today. Check Out The Contents Of This CD Below!
What is impossible for a human being may be easy for a marionette. In the group of transformation, inside-out, break-away and pop-out figures are tricks peculiar to marionettes only. They are amazing as magic, susceptible of endless changes, and tempting for the ingenious. Other stunts, walking a tight-rope or flying on a trapeze, require skill and special management, whether for men or marionettes. Still others, breathing visibly or picking up an object, are everyday acts for men, but tricks for marionettes.
HOW TO MAKE A MARIONETTE Â The marionette puppet described in this book is neither realistic, humorous, nor clever. These patterns for the marionette body were drawn by the sculptor, Mr. Max Kalish, especially for figures which were shown with little clothing on. It is simple, somewhat impressionistic and quite adequate and effective for certain types of drama. As all marionettes do, this appeals to the imagination of the spectator. Under favorable conditions one forgets their diminutive size, their crude construction, even their lack of soul. Includes patterns for making a 12" tall marionette and a 18" tall marionette.
