Swamp Rose Mallow (Hibiscus palustris) Swamp Rose Mallow is native to the Mid-Atlantic region. This is the northern hardy hibiscus. As they often are found growing in brackish creeks, they will handle a bit of salt and make great seashore plants. The plant will come to you in a 3.5 inch pot. Soak thoroughly before planting. Water regularly until established. Description: Swamp Rose Mallow boasts large pink or white flowers. They grow up to 7 ft tall. The leaves are pointed and ovate. Culture: Moist to average soil that is not allowed to completely dry out. Full sun to part shade. Zones 5 - 9. Bloom time is mid to late summer. Will tolerate moderate salt. Companion plants: Seaside Golden Rod, Salt Marsh fleabane, Asters, Seashore Mallow, Buttonbush Wildlife benefit: Nectar draws hummingbirds. Bob White, and Wood Ducks relish the seeds.
