Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata) Blue Vervain is native to the Mid-Atlantic region. This is a tall plant that is great for the mid to back of a border or bog. The plant pictured in this listing will be the one you receive. . The plant will come to you in a 3.5 inch pot. Soak thoroughly before planting. Water regularly until established. Description: Blue vervain boasts dark blue/purple flowers in clusters of spikes atop 3 - 5 ft stems, which bloom for several weeks. They start at the bottom of the spike and proceed upward. Leaves are a dark green. Culture: This plants does best in moist sunny areas as its found naturally in moist meadows. It will tolerate drier conditions if not allowed to completely dry out. Bloom time is mid to late summer. Hardy in zones 3 - 8. Companion plants: Sneezeweed, Joe Pye Weed, Boneset, Obedient plant, Swamp Rose mallow, Seashore Mallow. Wildlife benefit: Larval host plant for the buckeye butterfly, nectar for all butterflies, insects and hummingbirds.
