Slender or Erect Goldenrod (Solidago erectus) Slender Goldenrod, sometimes referred to as Erect or Showy Goldenrod, is native to the mid-Atlantic region. This plant grows occasionally in the NJ Pine Barrens, mainly dry, open woods, thickets and roadsides. It is different from other Goldenrods in that the flowering head is long, narrow and cylindrical, rather than one-sided as are most other Goldenrods. It is drought tolerant and late blooming, a good source of nectar for wildlife. The plant stays basal through the first year and work on root system, helping it resist drought. The plant will come to you in a 3.5 inch pot. Water regularly until established. Description: 1 - 4 ft high, with wand-like yellow spikes. Lance shaped basal leaves, sometimes reddish in color. Culture: Dry open areas, sun to part shade, average to dry soils, blooms Aug - Sept, Zones 3 - 9.
