This is a MEDAL with Mao & Zhu De ~From the summer of 1966 to the summer of 1969, factories, work units and army units across the country stamped out over several billion badges in tens of thousands of varieties, each weighed 20 grams of aluminum. Mao badges were an integral part of the cult of Mao. In his history of the Cultural Revolution, Yan Jiaqi includes a section entitled "`Displaying Loyalty` and Thought Control". According to Yan, "not long after the start of the Cultural Revolution...it suddenly became the rage to have a `little red book' in hand and a Chairman Mao badge pinned to the chest." According to one very rough estimate, in 1969 over ninety percent of people wore Mao badges -the first, small batch of badges was well-received by people, who pinned them to their chests as a "revolutionary symbol". The party committee at the factory also appreciated the badges. When a store was preparing to sell a new batch of badges, people would line up for hours and sometimes even overnight.Badges also became a medium of exchange.--From time of COLD WAR(60's) --During MAO's Cultural Revolution-- 1 1/2 X 1 1/2--As found...needs cleaning
Zhu De was born into a large and very poor farming family in Yilong County, a hilly and isolated section of northern Sichuan province. Zhu's bravery and skill in leading these men made him a figure of immense prestige. Locals credited him with supernatural abilities. During this time Mao and Zhu became so closely connected that to the local peasant farmers they were known collectively as "Zhu Mao".
He was also the Vice-Chairman of the Communist Party (1956-1966) and Vice-Chairman of the People's Republic of China (1954-1959). In 1950 Zhu De oversaw the PLA during the Korean War. In 1955, he was made a marshal.
In 1966, during the onset of the Cultural Revolution, Zhu De was dismissed from his position on the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. However, thanks to the support of Zhou Enlai he was not harmed or imprisoned. In 1971 Zhu was reinstated as the Chairman of the Standing Committee.
He continued to be a prominent and respected elder statesman until his death in July 1976.
